Are you right in the middle of the weird world of TTC, babydancing, or whatever else you want to call your venture to get pregnant? You are probably hoping to get pregnant during your current or next cycle, and not a year from now! How do you make that happen? A good dose of luck is involved in the timing of your pregnancy, but there are certainly things you can do to work with your body in a question to make it all happen faster.

Having sex regularly — at least two or three times a week, maybe more frequently — is the single most productive thing you can do to speed up conception. Eating healthy, taking folic acid,  and exercising regularly are also incredibly important. Couples who dont feel like just letting nature take its course, or those who cant or dont want to have sex very frequently, can benefit from ovulation-tracking methods. These include ovulation predictor kits, monitoring cervical mucus, and using basal body temperature to figure out when ovulation occurs.

Then, theres one more important thing couples who want a baby can do to increase their odds of conceiving, and conceiving safely. This is the so-called preconception checkup, where you go to the doctor and check if you have any nutritional deficiencies, sexually transmitted diseases, or anything else that could get in your way. Once your doctor gives you the green light, you are good to go.

These are really the only things you need to know about how to get pregnant, but many women dont stop there. They wonder how they can boost their odds of conceiving as soon as possible and think about every little detail.

How to do it

Once such detail is sex position. Does that matter? Many people claim that the missionary position is most likely to lead to a speedy pregnancy. This is a position in which the man is on top — something thats seen as very masculine and dominant — and in which the woman is kind of passive, because she doesnt have much space to move. Its a position in which the woman can remain passive after the deed is done and dusted, and let all that good stuff soak in with a pillow under her butt, of course, for a minimum of 30 minutes.

While it makes some sense that gravity, and semen actually going deep into the vagina and then through the cervix and beyond, plays some role in conception, there is actually no evidence that the missionary position will help you get pregnant. Methinks youre more likely to conceive if having sex isnt horrendously boring and monotonous to the point youd rather not do it.

Having said that, if you buy into the gravity thing, you have many more options besides the missionary position. One extremely obvious suggestion is to start off doing whatever you feel like doing. Stand on your head if you like. Then, when your partner gets close to climax, switch to a position you think youll help. Doggy is an option, as is the woman on her back with her legs in the air. Put a pillow under your butt if you feel like it, or stick in a Diva Cup if you want to maintain the idea you can capture all sperm, but with a little more mobility.
