Donor eggs are on the rise especially among women who opt for IVF and are older than 40 years because their eggs are no longer viable for in vitro fertilization. Egg donors are also very popular among gay population, especially gay men who wish to be a parent to a child.

There still exists the question of an ethics and how to compensate egg donors. Egg donors are often women who are still at College and are often are coerced into donation by the lure of big money. They do not realize the potential risk. There has been a long-standing issue in the field of reproductive medicine: a risk of donating someone’s egg usually does not come without some physical and psychological risk.

A study was published in March issue of the Hastings Center Report brings out the issue mentioned above again. The study suggests that the issue is far from resolved and that the voluntary guidelines set by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine are sometimes ignored.

For example, in the study, 105 ads were evaluated; being published in 63 newspapers. Only 50% of the ads met the standards of American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) that the compensation of egg donors should be $5,000 or less. This amount is set as a standard and is considered a fair compensation for the donor and yet not high enough to be exploitative, or human eggs to be considered as a commodity.

Approximately one fourth (27%) of the ads offered compensation between $5,000 and $10,000 which is actually still in the limits of ASRMs guidelines, but in case the amount offered for compensation must be justified.

And almost one fourth (23%) of revised ads were violating ASRM guidelines and were offering more than $10.000 in their ads. It is very important to bring out that the ads that were violating the rule of ethics were mostly placed by donor agencies, and not infertility clinics or individuals. These kind of ads usually appeared in the papers of prestigious universities, such as Harvard and Brown, which also have very high scholarships, therefore it is justified to think that young and fertile middleclass women will be interested in so generous payment. In addition, some of these ads request applicants with specific attributes, such as a particular ethnicity, high SAT scores or brown hair.

Only few ads that violate guidelines have (serious) consequences, which suggests voluntary guidelines used for egg donor solicitation in US do not work, although as published in the editorial accompany the study, ASRM member believe the system works well.

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine defines infertility as a disease involving the human reproductive system. Although it can seem like conceiving a child should come naturally and easily, the biological and physiological process is very complicated and complex. Healthy reproduction and conception can be influenced by the proper functioning of the following factors:

Healthy egg production

Healthy sperm production

Unblocked fallopian tubes which allow sperm to reach the egg

Ability of sperm to fertilize the egg

Ability of a fertilized egg to properly implant in the uterine wall

High quality of the embryo

Infertility male factor information points to many different things which could prevent pregnancy in couples trying to conceive. However, with proper testing and treatment, male infertility can be treated and overcome. The chances of conception for the average couple is about 25% per each menstrual cycle and for most it happens within 12 months of trying.

Infertility affects an average of 12% of couples of childbearing age, and infertility issues are not just limited to a woman. There can be instances where the male can be the sole reason behind infertility and until testing is done, knowing how to treat it will remain a mystery. However, more than 20% of couples have no identifiable cause for infertility even after undergoing extensive medical testing.

Infertility male factor can be related to several different causes, including the following:

Genital infection or prostatitis

Testicular torsion (twisting) or trauma (injury)

History of early or delayed puberty

Toxic substance exposure

Heavy alcohol consumption

Drug addiction

Cigarette smoking

Exposing the genitals to high temperatures

Prescription drugs for psoriasis or ulcers

Undescended testicles

Mumps after puberty

Hernia repair

DES taken by mother during pregnancy

Some of the problems relating to male infertility for couples trying to conceive can be treated by medication or surgical methods, others cannot. Undergoing medical testing and following the advice of a fertility specialist will help relieve or alleviate the issues relating to male infertility. Some couples will be able to conceive naturally and for some, the assistance of reproductive medicine will be needed in order to conceive a baby of their own.

For a couple that has been trying for a long time to conceive a baby, the methods used can make a very real difference in whether they are able to get pregnant. Some people are able to become pregnant through the simple act of sexual intercourse and nothing else is needed, however, others need something more. There are medical procedures, alternative therapies and holistic methods which can be employed and some may actually play an important role in helping couples conceive.

For couples seeking an alternative to costly medical procedures there is a chance they may be wondering about herbal remedies. Infertility treatment, herbal remedy tisane de bourbon is an herbal mixture that originates from England and is supposed to flush all the impurities from the blood of a female. The mixture works on the blood by removing toxins and some believe it has the power to increase fertility.

As with any type of herbal mixture, tisane de bourbon can cause side effects with a woman. Some symptoms of an allergic reaction can include hives, itching, and swelling of the lips, tongue and face, edema in the fingers and feet or a topical rash. If a woman is considering adding the herbal mixture to her diet, she should always first consult with her physician or fertility specialist to make sure it is safe to do so.

Trying to conceive a baby is an arduous task for a couple to endure and when a diagnosis of infertility is given, it can be heartbreaking and discouraging. There have been many revolutionary breakthroughs in the world of reproductive medicine which is a reason for people to hold out hope for becoming pregnant. Attitude and infertility treatments go hand-in-hand, and with the right mind frame a couple can soon find themselves expecting a much longed for infant.

An infertility treatment, herbal remedy tisane de bourbon is something that some couples have had success with, but people should never explore the supplement without seeking medical advice first. Some herbal remedies are safe and some are not approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration and should not be used by couples trying to conceive. Everything a couple does prior to becoming pregnant will have a direct impact on the health of the mother and child and should be taken into serious consideration and treated with importance.
