With so much emphasis put on the topic of female infertility, male infertility sort of takes second place. However, most statistics point to how it is just as common for a man as it is for a woman to experience infertility issues. Male infertility rates account for approximately 50% of all cases of a couple’s failure to conceive a baby and the topic needs more discussion and research in order to be better understood.

A male infertility test is the only surefire way to determine if a male is experiencing fertility impairment problems. A semen analysis is one of the most commonly performed male fertility tests used to determine if a man is infertile or not. When the test is performed the sperm is collected by a lab tech and examined. If the sperm count is below 20 million per ml, the male is considered to have a fertility problem.

A physician may order another male infertility test or several tests to detect other issues which could be presenting a road block to successful conception. Other tests can include blood tests, prolactin level tests, and LH and FSH tests. A urinalysis could also be used to check for the presence of white blood cells which could be indicative of an infection. Sperm in the urine could also indicate retrograde ejaculation which is a treatable problem.

For a couple trying to conceive a baby, all the testing could determine whether the problem exists with the man or the woman. If after a medical history, physical examination and sperm analysis has been done and nothing is abnormal, the female should also undergo testing to determine she is able to conceive as well. When both partners have been completely tested for infertility and find out what is preventing or blocking conception, something can be done to improve the odds of conception.

There are many reasons behind male infertility and until the man has received the full gamut of testing, some reasons may remain unknown. Though consulting with a fertility specialist and undergoing some routine tests, a man can determine what can be done to improve his chances of conceiving and alleviate any conditions which could be preventing it from happening. For many couples trying to become pregnant, testing on both ends is required in order to develop a plan of action for addressing infertility issues.

People are ignorant if they think infertility is a woman’s problem. For those not familiar with the situation, as much as half of the infertility cases involve men and in 30% of cases male’s low sperm count is the cause for having problems with infertility. For this reason it is essential that men get tested for fertility too. Tests at the doctor’s office can be embarrassing, but there are home fertility tests for men and they can check sperm at home without any discomfort.

Men might avoid (although not recommendable – there are issues this test cannot detect) unnecessary visit to a urologist to evaluation for male infertility, and they might avoid uncomfortable questions including sexual life, including any problems with sex or previous sexually transmitted diseases , question about full medical and reproductive history, along with any surgeries they’d had and medications they were taking.

Home fertility tests aren’t just for women anymore. Scientists were developing testing device for more than 10 years, and a new device that checks a man’s sperm count is soon going to enter the market in United Kingdom, and is still undergoing FDA (Food and Drug Administration) review in US.

The test will measure sperm level by detecting a specific molecule. Test detects an antigen found on the surface of the head of a sperm cell known as SP-10.

For example, a normal level of sperm counts is 20 million per millilitre of semen and above. This test will tell if a man’s sperm count meets this level, or if the man has low sperm count, that is bellow five million sperm per millilitre.
If the test shows man has low sperm count, he should seek medical treatment for infertility.

The test will cost approximately $30 which is still saving quite some money comparing to checkups and tests made in the doctor’s office. This test is definitely a great help for couples who are trying to conceive since it might help detect the cause, and might help them show them a way to start solving their problem.

As more and more couples are faced with the emotional reality of not being able to naturally conceive, medical science is subjecting males to just as many tests as females. Testing is done in order to determine what is causing a couple to be infertile and by doing so eliminating certain roadblocks that could be prohibiting conception. Male fertility testing encompasses many different things and in order to provide a better understanding, it is a topic that should be researched and discussed by infertile couples.

Though most individuals still believe infertility is mainly a “woman’s” problem, more than half of all cases can be directly attributed to a problem with a male. It is known, that about 20-30% of the time that low sperm count or limited sperm motility can be an obstacle to a couple conceiving. It is just as important for a man as it is for a woman to be tested for fertility problems in order to understand what can be done to alleviate the issue.

A physician or team of fertility specialists will diagnose a couple as being infertile when a pregnancy has not occurred within one year of trying unprotected and frequent sex. However, there are other couples that continue to try to conceive and a large percentage will usually become pregnant in the second year or at some later point. For those couples that have impaired fertility, testing is the next option introduced in order to find out why.

For male fertility testing, the individual will need to visit with a urologist for an evaluation and examination. The man will be subjected to a complete medical exam and take a patient history including a series of lifestyle questions, sexual history, physical examination, and a semen sample will be obtained for analysis. Identifying why a male has fertility issues is as important as it is for a female, but it is done in a very different manner.

A series of fertility tests on a male will take require a sperm and semen analysis, hormonal evaluations, genetic testing, anti-sperm antibodies testing and possibly other tests. Males with fertility issues can be treated and have the problem corrected, sometimes with prescription medications or minor surgery. Once the issue has been addressed concerning male fertility, a couple can overcome male fertility issues and go on to conceive and have a child.
