Trying to conceive for a year

Pregnant womanNormal fertility is usually defined as ability for couple to conceive within two years. Most couples (80%) will experience pregnancy within the first 12 months of trying, although for some couples it may take up to 18 months. Just 25% of couples actively trying to conceive will become pregnant in the first cycle. If couple is trying to get pregnant for more than a year without success, they could be considered subfertile, being advised to seek help from practitioner.
Most practitioners will not intervene unless it has been more than 12 months since the couple actively began trying to conceive.  Also, most specialists will take age of future parents into consideration first. For example, a 35 year old woman who hasn’t conceived after one year has 10% chance of conceiving in following year, while 40 year old woman has only 5% of chance of becoming pregnant.

Besides age, infertility is another common cause of conceiving problems that affects about 1.2 million people in the US, or about 2% of the population. In couples that are experiencing difficulty trying to conceive, the problem lies equally with both the man and the women.
There are various causes of infertility and while some remain unknown, others are linked with certain health problems in both partners.
However, even if couple’s reproductive health is excellent, the average chance for a woman to get pregnant each time she has intercourse is about 20%.

Trying to Conceive for Two Years

For many couples trying to conceive should be a natural process. However, not everything goes as planed and for some couples sometimes it is hard to become pregnant. Being a part of group of people who find becoming pregnant a hard thing to do, it’s almost not understandable how others succeeded so easily. There are many factors that infect ones fertility and while some are temporary others can last for a long time. Many couple give up trying after the first year and sometimes they end up pregnant out of nowhere and sometimes they don’t. On the other hand many couples are afraid to go to fertility doctor. A study has showed that usually couples wait at least two years of not conceiving to go to fertility clinic.

Don’t put so much pressure on yourself to perform. The stress you create may actually be one of the reasons for your difficulty in conceiving. Relax and have fun! It seems that when relaxed, the body will function better and do what it’s meant to do to aid in conception. If you’re not getting pregnant right away, you’re not alone. It takes time, even for the healthiest couples. Try not to obsess, which will only make the time pass more slowly. Focus on other things — your hobbies, your work, anything you enjoy. (more…)
