When can you take a pregnancy test after IUI?
Just about every woman who is trying for a baby wants to know when she can take a pregnancy test and get an accurate result. Waiting for two weeks after ovulation is not easy, and for many, impatience kicks in during this time. For women who are trying to conceive a baby through Intrauterine Insemination or IUI, the wait might be even harder, and the question about when a pregnancy test can turn up positive more complicated.
Women who have use IUI on its own without other medical interventions or fertility drugs are able to take a pregnancy test at the same time as everyone else. Implantation of a fertilized egg occurs around 10 days after ovulation, and that is the very first opportunity to take a test. The hormone hCG will start being produced around this time, and it is possible you might get a positive pregnancy test. It is better to wait for the day of your missed period before you take a test, because that is the time at which you are able to get the most accurate result. With blood tests, it is possible to get an earlier accurate result.
If you used medications containing hCG, it will take around 10 days for that to leave your body totally. Taking a test before 10 or 12 days will result in a positive pregnancy test if you used hCG-containing drugs, simply because pregnancy tests work by detecting this very hormone. You will still be able to take a test on the day of your expected period. But anyone who has been using medication containing hCG should be aware of a higher chance of getting a false positive, in other words a test showing that you are pregnant, when you are not.
If you suspect you are pregnant, by all means take a test, but be sure to contact your healthcare provider to confirm that you are in fact pregnant if you do get a positive result.

pray for me i had iui 4days before i am cray for my baby
Rozina, lots of baby dust to you!
Dr had me doing femera. Had one follicle show up on left ovary a week late (had ultrasound on Monday and surprise Wednesday!) And did ovidrel shot Friday. I had my first IUI on Feb 12 & 13.
2ww ends Sunday. Have taken 3 HPT’s…first one was that Monday (not gonna lie, I really wanted to see what a positive looked like, even if it was false)…it was negative. The next was 1st day of missed period. Negative. And today, “14th day” after shot, 12/13th days after IUI’s. Negative. I thought the HCG shot was supposed to give false +s…. saw on one site where someone said they had false -’s and a positive blood tests. Idk what to think of this. Look things up on google…a lot of people with same questions, but never come back to answer it based on their experience.
I have some weird symptoms that could be period (but I don’t mestruate on my own) or could be pregnancy. Itchy breasts…sore breasts…cold all the time (usually hot flashing)…a little nauseus…crampy…
Anyone have any thoughts?
I’m going to retest Monday and Friday.
Baby dust to all.
Hey Lisa… Just curious to find out what happened??
I’ve got IUI 2 times and that did not result in pregnancy – but I did have sore breasts for atleast a week the 2nd time round. Maybe it was just hormones (Clomid) tabs am taking……..
Have got it done third time now…hope am third time lucky !! Fingers crossed.
Baby dust to you too…..
I’m 40 yrs old. Had my first iui 15 days ago. Been showing signs of pregnancy…constipation, very sore breasts, tiredness. I know these are signs of my period so haven’t put too much thought into it. I have these little twinges of pain in my abdomen..not like cramping. I was told not to take a test until day 14. Took it yesterday and it was negative. Very disappointed. Was told I had about twice as many potential eggs as any normal person and my husband had twice as many sperm as they require. No sign of my period or even spotting yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Ladies!
