I had a miscarriage four months ago. It was after my positive pregnancy test and my first doctor's visit but before I had an ultrasound. We were not trying at the time and I am not certain how far along I was. After the miscarriage, we realized how much we really wanted a baby and we started trying to conceive. I am now pregnant again, and just had my positive test three days ago. I am very happy. But I am also worried I will have another miscarriage. I have no idea what caused the miscarriage and I am not sure whether I should feel happy or just worried at this time.

Dear sticks and stones,

It is very nice that you are pregnant again. It is also very understandable that you are a bit worried. As you must know, the first three months of a pregnancy are the most tricky ones. In previous years it used to be said you should not tell anybody about your pregnancy until those three months had passed. That is for exactly the reason that you can have a miscarriage. Of course you can be happy, but there is always a risk of miscarriage. 

I recently read this article that said that the risk of another miscarriage if you are pregnant again within six months of losing a baby is lower. You have a better chance of not having a miscarriage than other women, in other words. 

So I bet you will be lucky this time. It happened to me too, once. I was 10 weeks pregnant and it was my first pregnancy. I only went on to get pregnant once more after that, but that pregnancy is now my daughter. She is in college! 

I wish you the most wonderful pregnancy and a lovely cuddly baby to hold in your arms.
