Please help!

I gave birth to a perfect baby girl six days ago. She has been nursing throughout the day and at first I thought the pain was normal because I had to get used to breastfeeding. Now it is almost unbearable. I want to scream every time she latches on. My baby girl seems happy enough but my nipples are being battered and it just can't go on like this. I am commited to breastfeeding and don't want to start bottle feeding. But it HURTS so bad I want to cry, and do cry. Please, if you have any suggestions, share them. I don't know what to do anymore.

Hey,

I do have a suggestion for you but before I share it, I'll say that you'll be best off seeing a doctor or lactation consultant before trying this. Some midwives are also very knowledgeable about breastfeeding difficulties.

Although the "all natural" people often reject this, what really helped me was a nipple shield. I have inverted nipples and that was why my nipples really hurt. The nipple shields made it all better.

Just a thought. I admire you for your determination to stick with breastfeeding. Hang in there, it will get better. Let us know how you get on.

I second the suggestion to see a lactation consultant. Please don't suffer in silence.
