Non-Obstructive Azoospermia with Successful Pregnancy
Azoopermia is a condition in which no mature sperm cells appear in a man’s semen. This condition may be obstructive azoospermia, in which the absence of sperm cells is due to a problem with “plumbing,” or non-obstructive, in which the absence of sperm cells is due to one of a great number of possible conditions, with the exact causes very difficult to determine. Even infertile men who have non-obstructive azoospermia, however, sometimes are able to conceive. Most men who suffer non-obstructive azoospermia are otherwise sexually normal in every way. This condition can be caused by a genetic disorder called Klinefelter’s syndrome, in which the man has an additional X chromosome, but men who have Klinefelter’s tend to have other physical characteristics that make recognizing the problem very easy. The vast majority of men with non-obstructive azoospermia simply don’t make sperm and doctors don’t know why. The condition can result from chemical exposure, but the exact chemical is almost impossible to detect from any medical test.
Men with this condition who truly wish to become fathers sometimes are able to conceive with medical assistance. Many men have pockets of production of sperm in their testes, areas unaffected by the chemical or other factor that has largely taken away their ability to reproduce.
The doctor may do repeated needle biopsies of the testes to look for mature sperm that can then be used to fertilize the female partner’s egg. Because the quantities of sperm extracted in this way are literally microscopic, usually they can only be used for in vitro fertilization of the female partner’s egg. They cannot be used for artificial insemination with hopes of success.
In other instances, specialized reproductive medicine centers may be able to offer microsurgery which extracts the mature sperm without subjecting the prospective father to repeated needle biopsies of the testes. These procedures enable men to conceive 20 to 40 per cent of the time.
Medical treatment of a condition called varicocele, however, is much more likely to be successful. Variocele is a “blowout” of a vein in the testes. In variocele, the problem is not the testicular tissue itself, or conducting the sperm out of the testes into the prostate to be mixed with semen, but rather the provision of oxygen and nutrients to the Leydig cells that later become sperm.
When variocele can be repaired, chances of conception are greatly increased. Recovery from the surgery usually takes about 3 months.

Hi Sheth.
Please type in the search on the upper right side of this website keywords “azoospermia” and “varicocele”, and you will find more articles on the topic. However, we will write more about the topic in near future.
Thank you for your comment.
Pl suggest the treatment for Azoospermia. I have done ny testicular biopsy the result is shertoli syndrom with out spermetogenesis.
Dear Vinod.
My intention is not giving you a diagnosis – this is something your doctor should do!
However, there is no effective medical therapy exists for Sertoli-cell-only syndrome – if you and your partner are trying to conceive, it is most likely you two will have to consider IVF or ICSI and it is very possible you will be offered testicular sperm extraction (TESE).
Once again, please talk to endocrinologist (a specialist for fertility), and I am sure you will be suggested optimal options for your situation.
Best wishes!
