Femara Fertility Dose
Femara also known as letrozole, is a drug commonly used to help infertile couples conceive. Fertility drugs like Femara, are first line of treatment for couples experiencing infertility issues, and can either induce ovulation or increase the chances of conception, for a female already ovulating on a regular schedule. The use of fertility medications have been very successful and allowed many childless couples experience the joy of parenthood.
Though the medication has not been exclusive approved for use in treating infertility and the fact letrozole (femara) has side effects , there are many couples that have had success at conceiving. Because Femara is used in the treatment of female breast cancer, there are no identified doses when noted for use as a fertility drug. Three dose regimens have been previously tested; 2.5 mg, 5 mg, and 7.5 mg. The usual length of duration for using the drug is approximately five days, but as a fertility medication more studies are required to determine the maximum benefits to be had.
Some early study information highlighted that a woman using Femara has a better chance of becoming pregnant than one using a gonadotropin medication, however it is not the same currently and more information is needed. It has also been discovered through careful research that the drug when used in older patients does not work as well, as in younger women. Treating infertility with Femara can still be much more successful even in the event that others have not.
There are certain Femara treatment protocols which a woman will be expected to adhere too, which includes the following:
- Contact the physician’s office on the 1st day of the menstrual cycle
- Day 2 or 3, a woman will need to go into the doctor’s office and undergo an ultrasound
- On days 5,6,7,8, and 9 the woman will take a 2.5 Femara tablet
- Have intercourse during these days
- Contact the doctor’s office if a menstrual cycle is late or if a home pregnancy test yields a positive result
With the statistical information present about Femara when used as a fertility drug, there is hope for many couples wanting to conceive. After undergoing routine medical testing and a battery of fertility tests, a physician may discuss Femara for couples that have tried other methods and thus far have not been able to get pregnant.

I found the article quiet informative. I wanted to know do I know when i would ovulate if letrozole 5mg has been prescribed to me from D3 to D7? Also when should we plan intercourse inorder to conceive? I have PCOS and am 30 years old. I want to conceive soon. Pl advise.
Hi Nella.
I am not a fertility specialist, but this is what I have found after doing a research. (I still think you should talk to your doctor who prescribed you the drug!!!)
First of all you need to use ovulation predictor kits to know when you ovulate. Start testing urine on day 10 or 11 after the period starts. test in the morning. You are looking for the first definite color change. And if the color changes. If you see the color change, have intercourse the same day you see the color change and the next day.
I hope this helps – please talk to your doctors about this!
Thanks for your guidance.
I am on Day 10 today , and would test for ovulation today and tomorrow. I had tested it last two days but in vain. There was no colour change observed in the test strips. Hope to see some indication today. Could you advise how long should I test for ovulation and this is my second cycle on Letrozole 5mg.
Also I read instructions on the Ovulation test strips and they advised to test in the evening or later in the day and not morning. I did so and saw negative result. Do you think i should have tested in the morning and is it with the first urine sample or anytime in the morning.
Please advise.
Dear Nella.
I wish you all the best, and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Generally, it is best to take urine sample early in the morning (first urine), before drinking etc..
Again, my thought are- you should talk to the one who prescribed you Femara – ask the doctor anything you need to know – you have that right!
Hi again,
I tested for ovulation using OPK strips on day 10 and 11 and got a very very faint test line. The following two days there was no line at all when I tested again. Does it mean that I would have ovulated and I would also like to know what are the chances of ovulation when on a dosage of letrozole.
I have been on clomid for 3 months and finally ovulated but did not concieve the dr is trying me on femara i finished the 5 day supply the day before yesterday im going to start testing today. however last month i was testing for 7 days and wasnt ovulating but for some reason i had 1 test strip left and decided to use it up on day 14 and what a surprise i had ovulated and u will know the difference i always had a faint line too but it was clearly darker then usual and almost the same color as the test line. i hope that helps
Thanks Lu for your response. I got my cycle this month also , just observed a strange thing that on Day 3 I saw some egg white kind of stretchy discharge along with blood. Is it normal, are there chances that a person can ovulate very close after having MC or is it that after ovulation , next MC should be after around 14 days.
Confused again !
